Cornizuelo Peaberry Coffee
Cornizuelo Peaberry Coffee
The Rare Caracolillo Selection
Featuring a rare peaberry bean selection known natively throughout Costa Rica as caracolillo coffee, our Cornizuelo showcases a beautiful botanical phenomenon. Only about one in twenty coffee cherries grows this way, producing a single, dense, oval-shaped bean instead of the usual two flat seeds. Because this solitary bean absorbs all the nutrients and complex sugars inside the fruit alone, the result is an incredibly concentrated, full-bodied cup filled with rich dark chocolate, bright citrus clarity, and a deep, nutty sweetness balanced beautifully by a crisp, medium acidity.
Grown in Matambú’s Blue Zone Soils
Cultivated in the mineral-rich volcanic soils of the Matambú indigenous reserve, Cornizuelo carries forward Costa Rica’s legacy of exceptional micro-lot farming while directly sustaining local heritage. Coffee Balam is proudly woman-owned—led by our co-founder, Cinthia—and 5% of each sale goes directly to the Committee for the Culture and Preservation of Matambugueño Traditions to protect and support ancestral indigenous Chorotega culture.
